Overview
IJDIR is committed to fair, transparent, and consistent editorial processes. We recognise that authors, reviewers, and readers may sometimes disagree with editorial decisions or have concerns about how processes have been handled. This policy sets out the channels and procedures for raising complaints and appeals.
Appealing Editorial Decisions
Authors who wish to appeal a rejection decision or request reconsideration of a major revision decision may do so in the following circumstances:
- The author believes the reviewers have made a factual or scientific error
- The author believes the review was conducted without sufficient expertise in the relevant field
- The author believes there was a procedural error in the handling of the manuscript
- The author has significant new evidence not available at the time of review
📋 How to Submit an Appeal
- Appeals must be submitted in writing to [email protected]
- The subject line should read: "Appeal: [Manuscript Reference Number]"
- The appeal must include: the manuscript title, reference number, decision date, specific grounds for appeal, and supporting arguments or evidence
- Appeals must be submitted within 30 days of the editorial decision
🚫 Not Grounds for Appeal
Disagreement with reviewer opinions alone — without specific scientific or procedural grounds — is not sufficient basis for an appeal. Appeals based solely on disappointment with the outcome will not be considered.
Complaints Procedure
Complaints about IJDIR's policies, editorial conduct, or processes (other than rejection decisions) should be submitted in writing to the editorial office. Complaints may be raised by:
- Authors (e.g., concerning handling time, lack of communication, bias)
- Reviewers (e.g., concerning editorial conduct, confidentiality breaches)
- Readers or third parties (e.g., concerning published content, ethical violations)
Complaints should include:
- The complainant's full name, affiliation, and contact details
- A clear description of the complaint
- Any relevant documentary evidence
- The outcome the complainant is seeking
Response Timelines
| Action | Target Response Time |
|---|---|
| Acknowledgement of complaint/appeal | 5 working days |
| Initial assessment and response | 15 working days |
| Full investigation and final decision | 60 working days |
Escalation
If a complainant is not satisfied with the outcome of IJDIR's internal process, they may escalate the matter to:
- COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) — if the complaint relates to publication ethics: publicationethics.org
- The relevant professional body or institution of the parties involved
IJDIR will cooperate fully with any legitimate external investigation or inquiry.
